We were 6 people arriving from different parts of the world to spend a week in Sri Lanka.
After been picked up by Victor at airport we arrived in Beruwala at the Palmhouse.
As we had only seen photos we were a bit worried that reality would prove to be different. But when entering the gate to the property everything turned out to be all that we hoped for. 3 spacious bedrooms, a big patio, palm trees, long stretched deserted beach and the Indian Ocean at our feet.
We were well taken care of from the staff who cooked, cleaned, drove and guarded us during our time there. We had so many laughter at the very nice dinner cooked by Ajith.
Sri Lankas infrastructure is rather undeveloped so going to inland where you can do Safaris takes a full day. Going down to Hikkaduwa is worth the ride as you can do some serious surfing. A few hours away sits Galle, nice town but not really worth the drive. 4 hours away you find Udawalawe National park. It´s a full day activity but you will see many, many elephants. But just staying at Palmhouse is so relaxing, so private and so good for the family concept. Payment and contacts with the owner worked out very smooth. House was well cleaned and in very good order. There was Wifi which sometimes was a little weak. Just a few steps away resides the Cinnamon hotel with a large pool and a nice bar with many expensive drinks. Viktor is super quick to take you down to town with his tuk-tuk where you can visit the market and go to coffee shop.
We, a family with four kids ages 5-11, have just come home after our dream holiday in Sri Lanka. We spent 13 nights in the lovely Palmhouse. It is even nicer in reality than in the pictures and we were so well taken care of by the cook Ajith and the rest of the staff. The stay exceeded all our high expectations. The beach is nice and it is safe to swim even for the kids thanks to the reefs protecting the bay. The house is situated in a residential area but only a short tuk-tuk ride from Aluthgama were you can visit the nice monday market or catch a train to Galle or Colombo. We did whale safari in Mirrissa, a boat tour in the river delta, visited Galle and the Sinharaja rainforest from the Palmhouse. We also went to Uduwalawe national park on our way from Ella to the Palmhouse. The owner was fast to answer, reliable and gave us good advice when we planned the 8 day roundtrip in central Sri Lanka that we did before we came to the Palmhouse. We would love to go back!
Our family of 4, including grand-mother and 19-year-old son, had a very good stay at the villa. The staff were at all times attentive and friendly. The standard of housekeeping was excellent, as were the meals. The decor was very tasteful and the view over the sea was great, even if our vacation was in the season when the sea was rough (July). Lovely walks along the beach made for a very relaxing time for us all. The location and the on-site driver with comfy air-conditioned van or Tuk-Tuk made for convenient travel (we went to Galle which was great for sightseeing and surfing). The cook was kind enough to teach us how to make his delicious Dhal. The staff and cute dog really made this a wonderful environment. If we should travel back to Sri Lanka we will definitely hope to find a vacancy at the Palmhouse.
We always felt safe while around the villa with the security guard always in the background and ready to advise people they cant come on to your bit of beach and a nice man to talk to and let us know a bit about sri lanka culture. The cook is very talented and we just left it up to him alot of the time and he never let us down. We bought two big lobsters one night from a fisherman that swam up to the beach and asked him to cook a seafood bbq on new years and also a very nice man. Then there is Victor, I cant thank him enough he really made our holiday very special with his knowledge of Sri Lanka and his tips and the little extras he got us on the trips. He came around all the time to see if we needed anything. He would come within 5mins when we asked if we could go into town and always advised us if he could take us somewhere to get something cheaper.
